CKL TO OPEN SOME SERVICES – BURN BAN LIFTED
The municipality continues to expand on a number of services currently closed due to COVID-19. During the pandemic, and following provincial regulations, the City has made tough decisions to close access to some municipal services to help prevent the spread of the virus.
“This entire situation hasn’t been easy on anyone, but we did what needed to be done to put the health and safety of residents and employees first,” stated Mayor Letham. “After working through some of the challenges, Council and I are pleased to share that we can start to lift restrictions on some services and take advantage of the better weather and the outdoors. The pandemic is far from over, but these small freedoms will go a long way for people’s mental health.”
This announcement follows consultation with our community partners and aligns with the recent directives from the province for the reopening of some seasonal and outdoor businesses. Physical distancing and safety protocols must be followed at all times. Affected services will be monitored closely and you can expect to see an increased presence of local law enforcement to ensure public safety is maintained.
Municipal-Wide Burn Ban: Kawartha Lakes Fire will lift the municipal-wide burn ban effective Friday May 8, 2020. Residents are asked to burn responsibly and safely. The northern part of Kawartha Lakes is still under the province's Restricted Fire Zone.
Lindsay Transit: Lindsay Transit is offering residents an “On Demand” temporary service for essential travel only (such as travel for grocery, medical or work-related purposes) until normal operations can resume. Riders can access this no charge service by calling into the transit scheduling office at 705-324-3331 and booking a pick up time, date and bus stop location.
Landfill Sites: Kawartha Lakes will allow public access to the Lindsay landfill site effective Monday May 11. The landfill will be open during normal scheduled days and operating hours. Cash will not be accepted until further notice, and there will be a limit to the number of vehicles allowed on site. The Fenelon and Eldon landfill locations will be open to the public effective May 18 with the same protocols in place.
Victoria Rail Trail: As of Tuesday May 12, the multi-use rail trail will be open to motorized vehicles.
Boat Launches: We are preparing to open public boat launches across the municipality Thursday, May 14.
Farmers Markets : Markets will be allowed to open and the municipality is working with local organizers to ensure the appropriate protocols and safety measures are in place, with a safety plan approved by the local health unit.
Stay Safe
Kawartha Lakes continues to take all necessary precautions to ensure the health and safety of residents and staff. These services will be monitored closely and the closures could be reinstated if the municipality sees any increased signs of risk. Physical distancing must be maintained and gatherings of more than five are prohibited.
