Library Staying in Dunsford

Council approved moving ahead with a three-year lease agreement with the Dunsford Community Centre Inc. The library is an important tenant for the Community Centre and the rent provided ensures the viability of the Community Centre.

Councillor Ashmore has been pushing very hard for this long-term lease, and also an expansion of the library hours in Dunsford.

In response to longer hours at the Dunsford branch, Council requested that the Kawartha Lakes Library Board take a look at the expansion of hours at the Dunsford Library over the term of the lease based on need.

Miller Wins CKL Waste and Recyclable Contract

Council agreed to enter into a seven-year partnership with Miller Waste Systems Inc. of Markham to handle the city’s waste and recyclables.

Miller was the “highest scoring proponent” in the City bid process. Council has authorized an option that could come into effect after the initial seven-year deal that would allow for two two-year extensions, and a final one-year extension upon mutual agreement and successful completion of the initial terms and the terms thereafter.

If things go well, residents of CKL could be seeing the ubiquitous brown and cream Miller trucks picking up waste and recycling for another 12 years across CKL.
